• Will my child have the opportunity to participate in interscholastic athletics at Berkeley?

  With 16 different sports and more than 72 teams, all students in grades 6-12 have the opportunity to participate in Berkeley interscholastic athletics. Berkeley teams compete against public and independent schools as a member of the Florida High School Activities Association (FHSAA). In Middle and Upper divisions, we have close to an 80% participation rate and many multi-sport athletes in our athletic program.

• What is an open-participation policy?

  Our open-participation policy means that if your child wants to participate in athletics, he or she will gain membership on a team in that sport. JV rosters in a small number of our 16 Upper Division sports could be limited based on participation numbers in order to ensure a valuable experience for all participants. After “placement week,” our coaching staff will place athletes on the team where their skills are best suited and where that child has the best opportunity for quality playing time.

• How does my Middle Division athlete become involved?

  Berkeley offers a wide range of sports teams specific to the Middle Division. Like varsity, Middle Division teams practice or compete every weekday in season and have occasional Saturday contests. These teams are: basketball, football, cheerleading, soccer, track and field, baseball, softball, lacrosse, wrestling and tennis. Middle and Upper division students compete together as a varsity team in cross-county, swimming and diving and golf.
